PostSubject: Mk3 golf immobiliser on 2.0 8v   Mk3 golf immobiliser on 2.0 8v EmptyFri Dec 30 2011, 22:50

my mates just bought a mk3 golf gti 2.0 8v, with a smashed barrel and ignition, and no key. i have broken a couple of old golfs etc, and have a spare reader coil, key and the immobiliser box here. If i plug this into his car, and then get the engine to crnk with a new ignition barrel, will the engine run? or does the key actually speak to the ecu, meaning a new key from vw will be needed?

Basicaly i just wanna know if the key is only coded to the immob box,and the box then talks to the ecu, or whether the key itelf is stored in the ecu??

cheers

The simple answer is, it won't run.

The key, the ecu AND the immobiliser box all need to be coded together.

Find someone breaking one and get those three items, hot swap them and you're away.

i see, thanks for that info......does the ecu part number have to correspond with the one on the car, or are all 2.0 8vs ecu's the same regardless of part number?

In essence yes, you have to swap like for like ecu.
Shouldn't be difficult, get the ecu part number then get on eBay looking for breakers and ask them the part number of their ecu, if they match buy the key, box and ecu.

so an AGG ecu with one part number wont be any good as a swap for an agg ecu with another?? why's this? what could be different when both are on the same engine code, and from the same car? will it be like year of manufacture, or something??

Yes I agree in principal with what you say but if you go check the pin data I believe them to be different, hey Fuck it, if you have access to some, try it you may get a result.

ok, one more thing then, there's a chap on ebay, with an ecu of the same part number that im after, but he says its for a car that didnt have an immobilers, and says its uncoded, and will work without transponder and key etc, is this a possibility? I'd have thought that an ecu with same part number, would be the same ecu? were there any early mk3 2.0 8v's that came without immobiliser??

There seems to be no hard and fast rule but immobilisers were fitted as standard from late M plate onwards.
As far as I'm aware all the numbers need to correspond except from the serial number obviously.
I can't say for certain if one without it fitted will work it. I doubt it.
I'm sure if you search forums like ed38 and PVW I'm sure there's info out there on it.

think i may have sussed the problem, i've done some diggin and research on etka, and it seems AGG's only ever had 1 part number ecu on them, however the car my mate has, has an AGG engine, but some1 had already removed the transponder box and reader coil when i got there, which i thought was a bit odd......then when i just wnet to check the ecu out, it had laready been reomved from its cage, and was laying the scuttle tray - some1's been here before i feel, lol....

The ecu that is currently fitted is an ECU from an ADY engine, and is not the correct one for hte car, hence why this other chaps ecu part number matches, lol.

I have now told my mate to find out some info on ebay from diff sellers, and he has since agreed a deal :-)

ECU with AGG part number, from a same year AGG engined car, with transponder box, reader coil, ingition barrel, 2 keys, drivers and passenger door handles and boot lock :-) Hopefully a result all round :-)
