| I'd seen this done before ,but for the life of me couldn't find the thread for it... I spent a good ten minutes just staring at it before i took the plunge. Then cut a plate .drilled some holes and welded some bolts on.. then made a mess getting on the bus. For this... Still need some work but you get the idea. It's a struggle getting things right first time with not a lot of space and only one eye..lol In a perfect world, i'd like to have the skills to do this.. http://www.thelatebay.com/index.php?threads/vw-t2-1972-building-a-totaly-new-car.26973/ | |

it goes like this
1. drive it 2. then think il just change this, then brake what ever im changing 3. send it to the garage to get done correctly 4. while at the garage the owner will phone me up and say have you thought of fitting XXXXXX 5. i hand over £xx (not too many £s the wife might read this)
then back to 1 | |

| little by bit... Made a cover for the starter.. Will probably run a bit of silicone along the top edge once it's all back together.. While i was there i drilled the new breather hole.. Couldn't find anything suitable to get it out so drilled in situ, used the magnet to get the filings so they didn't fall in.. | |

| It's not pretty, but i made up a mount for the clutch cylinder still got to sort this side out though.. It's a bit of a struggle when the bus is only on axle stands :( | |

| Grrr, well after two weeks and 5 porsche dismantlers (who wouldn't sell just the brackets, why?) a deal was struck for cables and brackets.... so when a box turns up with only cables in i wasn't best happy... After much grief i did a 180 miles round trip and bought a complete box with all the bits... the things i put myself through.....Rant over... so today it all went back in.. Havn't got a pic of it in situ, but with the driveshafts bolted up ive only got about an inch and a half before they hit the bodywork just in front of the engine mount bars..hmmm might have to get the grinder out.. | |

| At 10 this morning i was staring at this and pondering what the next move is. The drive shaft has 35mm before it hit the body work.....not good Then.... this happened... Which was a bit of luck, leaving me with this As you can see my paint skills are second to non..Thinking cut and in fill plate red one first.. then blue two at the same time. pink third with an cut section to join with yellow then white.. whay do you guys think?? | |

| Time flies when you havn't got a clue...lol So.. not having any spare cash to plow into it i had to make do with what was at hand, in this case 50x50 angle at 4mm thick. The top was lapped over to give it 8mm and fully seam welded inside and out, then mounted to the bus ....Didn't say it was pretty.... With that done i put her back on terra firmer for the first time in a long while. Didnt get any pictures but even with the extra weight she didnt sit too bad, but the bottom of the gearbox was only 90mm off the ground and i wasnt happy with that. With a bit of cutting i could get the engine higher but couldn't use the engine bars i had so re-worked the original bay bar.. .. Ive also moved the charge cooler rad up front with the main rad ,and after a day searching the garage the firewall went back in with a bit of sound deadening behind it .. . Think that's it so far.... | |

| A new year and project backwards stumbles on.. I really want a futbus gear shift, but it aint gonna happen . So after spending an age trawling and coming up empty , and having a complete mental meltdown trying to work out how i can make the boxster shifter cables work vertically i just gave in and created this monstrosity. Was going to mimick a CAE motorsport tower with the cut outs, but held back and thought of better uses of the space.. first cup holders, half cut one side out and fold it back .and cut out two holes for the cans..simple.. Then dismissed it as it sits just behind the rad.. hmmmm warm fizzy.. Then on the thought of heat, a vent either side for toasty feet... .... Think i'll leave it for now as im not overly happy with the shifter as the cables are pretty thick and dont bent to great and exit through the cab walk way floor next to the handbrake.. :( .. dont look pretty.. Copper clutch pipe is routed through flared and fitted, just need to find a suitable length of hose for the res.... Question...... Does anyone know if there's a reason why they put coils in the copper pipe? .. Does it hold a better pressure? With that done i made this..... Yep.............Crap It's so i can work out the right bracket length to combine the cables.. ... | |

| Guessing that the coils in copper piping are to help absorb vibration and so not fracture. | |
